This story documents the preparation and excitement surrounding the 2026 girls lacrosse season at Valor Christian High School, focusing on the transition to new leadership under head coach Sam Geirsbach and the strong culture that defines the program. As a junior who has played varsity lacrosse during both my freshman and sophomore years, I approached this project with a personal connection to the team and a deep understanding of what the program represents. My goal was to creatively capture not only the athletic side of lacrosse but also the sense of family and community that keeps players committed to each other. The process required extensive planning, including scheduling and conducting interviews with Coach Geirsbach and a teammate, coordinating times that worked around busy practice and academic schedules, and filming in multiple locations around the school to visually represent the daily rhythm of the program. Through natural sound and interview clips, I highlighted authentic voices from the team, such as a senior goalie discussing the close-knit environment and players reflecting on how the new coach’s relatable leadership style has positively shaped communication and trust. I intentionally structured the piece to balance energetic footage with reflective interview moments, using pacing and sequencing to show how last season’s championship success influences, but does not define, the new team. The creative choices behind camera angles, shot selection, and editing were designed to emphasize movement, teamwork, and emotion, allowing viewers to feel immersed in practices and team interactions. Filming around campus added realism and context, reinforcing how the program is integrated into everyday student life. This project also challenged me to think like a storyteller and producer by organizing logistics, adapting to on-the-spot changes during filming, and ensuring that each segment contributed to a cohesive narrative. By combining my personal experience as a varsity athlete with journalistic techniques, I aimed to create a story that authentically represents the dedication, growth, and unity of the girls lacrosse team. Ultimately, this piece serves as both a season preview and a tribute to the collaborative effort required to sustain a successful program, highlighting the voices, leadership, and shared passion that drive Valor Christian girls lacrosse forward.
